Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Historically, the healthcare sector was considered a secondary target by attackers compared to sectors with easier monetization like finance, due to both lower perceived value and the risk of complications in attacks. However, it has now become a primary target. An analysis of data breaches recorded in the Privacy Rights database between 2015 and 2022 revealed that 32% of all reported breaches occurred in healthcare—nearly double the number recorded in both financial services and manufacturing sectors combined.
Along with the high value of medical data—which makes healthcare a prime target for cyberattacks—there is lingering uncertainty surrounding best practices, resulting in the uneven application of data protection and cybersecurity regulations. Ensuring the robust protection of medical data and device functionality is further complicated by the increased complexity of healthcare IT ecosystems, the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) medical devices, and legacy infrastructures.
This Special Issue aims to address technical security challenges in information systems, devices, and networks used in healthcare environments. We particularly welcome experimental research and engineering solutions that enhance the security of these tools while maintaining their operational efficiency and reliability.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
