To further clarify the scope of Resources (ISSN 2079-9276), under the guidance of our Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Benjamin McLellan, the journal has updated and revised its aims and scope. The original version and the updated version are listed below:

Resources (ISSN 2079-9276) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal on natural resources published monthly online by MDPI. It publishes reviews, regular research papers, and communications, and there is no restriction on the maximum length of the papers. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their research, whether theoretical, empirical or experimental, with sufficient detail to support transparency and reproducibility, while ensuring that submissions provide clear scientific contributions and generalizable insights. Detailed methodological descriptions are encouraged to support this aim, but submissions must be anchored in clearly defined research questions, a coherent analytical framework, and findings with relevance beyond a single project or site. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their research in as much detail as possible, whether theoretical, empirical or experimental. The journal fundamentally deals with research relating to natural resources, their production, management and processing, and how they can be made available to society in ways that reduce environmental burdens. This is a broad scope, as there are many types of natural resources—and post-processed, residual, and waste materials that can substitute for them. We accept papers that primarily consider a resource perspective. That means studies that consider a resource and analyze or measure its flows and accessibility to society in ways that generate transferable insight, including the social burdens and impacts of resource provision on the environment and economy. We accept papers covering the following: Mineral and geo-resources; Land, soil and ecological resources; Bioresources from agri-food, forestry, and other sectors; Water resources; Energy resources; Resource conservation; Resource stewardship, governance, and policy; Reuse and recycling of secondary resources and their implications for natural resource systems; Sustainable resource management, including economic, social, and environmental aspects; Circular economy and new business models for resource management; Modeling resource flows and impacts, including via material flow analysis and life cycle assessment.
