Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Land use and land cover (LULC) changes significantly impact climate systems, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity loss, and altered carbon cycles. Unsustainable land practices—such as deforestation, urban sprawl, and intensive agriculture—exacerbate climate change, while climate-friendly land management (e.g., afforestation, regenerative farming, and urban greening) can mitigate its effects. Climate change mitigation and sustainable land management are critical challenges. Remote sensing has become a fundamental tool for monitoring these changes, providing data to guide climate-smart land use policies.

This Special Issue aims to explore innovative remote sensing applications; highlight advances in remote sensing techniques for sustainable land use mapping; show climate-friendly land management using satellite, UAV, SAR, and LiDAR data; discuss artificial intelligence and machine learning methods for analyzing land classification and land use changes; and address challenges in integrating remote sensing with climate-related policies.

We invite original research, reviews, and case studies on topics including (but not limited to) the following:

  • High-resolution land use/land cover (LULC) mapping;
  • Machine learning and deep learning for land use classification;
  • Soil carbon monitoring;
  • Urban climate adaptation and mitigation;
  • Urban green infrastructure (parks, urban forests, and green roofs) mapping;
  • Detection of deforestation, afforestation, and reforestation;
  • Precision agriculture for sustainable farming;
  • Wetland and peatland monitoring for GHG emission reduction;
  • Remote sensing for climate policy and SDG monitoring.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Remote Sensing is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
