Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Terahertz technology, as an emerging field within the electromagnetic spectrum, has gained extensive attention in various scientific and engineering domains in recent years. Terahertz waves possess both microwave penetration capabilities and high-resolution infrared characteristics, which have demonstrated significant potential in radar imaging, concealed target detection, medical imaging, security screening, and ultra-high-speed communications. Particularly, terahertz radar imaging provides new technology and equipment for all-weather, video-level, high-resolution surveillance, providing reliable information sources for traffic monitoring, emergency rescue, and public security. However, the large-scale application of terahertz radar technology still faces key challenges such as atmospheric attenuation suppression, high-sensitivity device design, and real-time signal processing.

This Special Issue aims to compile the latest advancements and innovations in terahertz radar imaging technology research, covering both fundamental theories and applied technologies, with the goal of promoting its application in high-resolution imaging, target detection, and non-destructive testing. We welcome cutting-edge and innovative research that aligns with the scope of the journal, and we invite contributions to explore the development and challenges of terahertz radar imaging technology, as well as its practical applications in traffic monitoring, emergency rescue, public security, and other fields.

This Special Issue encourages submissions of research on terahertz sources, terahertz devices, terahertz radar systems, terahertz imaging methods, terahertz imaging applications, and so on. We invite all scientists, engineers, and government decision-makers working on activities related to terahertz radar imaging technologies and applications. The following topic abstracts provide guidelines for paper submission, but all relevant topics and papers are welcome to be published in this Special Issue.

  • Terahertz radar imaging and applications;
  • Terahertz high-precision positioning and 3D imaging;
  • Terahertz video SAR imaging;
  • Target detection and tracking in terahertz video imaging;
  • Terahertz high performance device development;
  • Terahertz antenna and array design;
  • Terahertz detector and imaging technology;
  • Terahertz structure design and processing technology.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
