Respiratory Diseases in Swine: Epidemiology, Diagnosis and Control

Dear Colleagues,

Regardless of significant advancements in veterinary medicine, bacterial and viral respiratory diseases in swine pose significant challenges to the global pig industry, leading to economic losses and welfare concerns. These diseases are often multifactorial, involving interactions between infectious agents, environmental conditions, and host factors. Common pathogens include viruses such as porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus and swine influenza A virus, as well as bacterial agents like Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and Pasteurella multocida. Effective diagnosis requires a combination of clinical assessment, laboratory testing, and epidemiological investigation to identify causative agents and contributing factors. Control strategies focus on biosecurity, vaccination, management practices, and antimicrobial use, with increasing emphasis on responsible antibiotic stewardship to mitigate antimicrobial resistance. Advances in diagnostic tools and vaccination strategies continue to improve disease prevention and control.

This Special Issue aims to publish high-quality research on swine respiratory diseases. All types of contributions are welcome, including original research articles, communications, case reports, and reviews. Your valuable contributions will enhance the current understanding of these diseases and support efforts to improve their control.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
