Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, represent a growing global health concern due to aging populations and the absence of effective disease-modifying therapies. These disorders are characterized by complex and interconnected pathological mechanisms, including oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, protein misfolding and aggregation, and progressive neuronal loss.

Throughout the years, bioactive compounds have attracted significant attention for their varying biological properties, in particular the prevention, treatment and modulation of these neurodegenerative diseases. Many of these molecules exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties, as well as the ability to modulate signalling pathways associated with neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, and cellular homeostasis, emerging as promising candidates for the treatment of this type of disease.

The following Special Issue, entitled “Therapeutic Potential of Bioactive Compounds Against Neurodegenerative Diseases,” gathers pioneering research and reviews showcasing recent advances in this area. Your research on discovery, mechanisms, and delivery strategies can inspire progress and highlight the critical role of interdisciplinary efforts in developing new treatments.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
