Innovative Progression of Light-Emitting Diodes (LED)

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the LED family, power-saving and high-efficiency power LED chips are used as lighting sources, standard LED chips can be used as indicator light sources because of their fast response, mini LED chips can be used as display light sources because of their ultra-high resolution and color saturation, and micro LED chips can be used as light sources for displays. Because LED chips are ultra-small active light sources, they can be used as light sources for AR/VR or near-eye microdisplays. The current technology bottlenecks of micro LED displays include epitaxy, wafer, transfer, full-color, power drive, backplane, detection, and repair technology. At present, the bottlenecks of micro LED epitaxy is mainly wavelength uniformity, the control of defects and suspended particles, and the effective utilization of epitaxial wafer areas. Chip technology bottlenecks are insufficient red-light luminous efficiency, reduced light efficiency due to leakage, the fabrication of weakened structures, and the protection of chip-insulating layers. Accordingly, this Special Issue seeks to showcase research papers, short communications, and review articles that focus on novel product developments in epitaxy; mini/micro LEDs; quantum dot LED and UV LED manufacturing, including fabrication process and device design optimization; modeling of the vacuum thin-film process; approaches to and mechanisms of thin-film quality enhancement; approaches to and mechanisms of device performance enhancement; and material analysis and characterization.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Micromachines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
