Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The long-term structural integrity of metallic materials operating under combined cyclic and sustained loading remains a critical challenge in modern engineering applications. Components used in aerospace propulsion systems, power generation facilities, nuclear reactors, petrochemical plants, transportation infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing environments are frequently exposed to elevated temperatures where creep and fatigue damage interact simultaneously. This interaction often accelerates material degradation, leading to premature failure and reduced service life. Understanding the mechanisms governing creep–fatigue behavior is therefore essential for the safe and reliable design of next-generation engineering systems.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for the dissemination of recent advances in the mechanical reliability assessment of metals and alloys subjected to creep–fatigue conditions. Contributions addressing experimental investigations, theoretical developments, numerical simulations, and data-driven approaches are particularly welcome. Emphasis is placed on studies that improve the understanding of damage initiation, crack propagation, microstructural evolution, deformation mechanisms, and life prediction under complex thermo-mechanical loading environments.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, creep–fatigue interaction mechanisms; constitutive modeling of time-dependent deformation; fatigue and creep damage accumulation; crack growth behavior at elevated temperatures; multiaxial and variable-amplitude loading effects; microstructure-sensitive reliability assessment; advanced characterization techniques; finite element and multiscale modeling; probabilistic and reliability-based design methodologies; machine learning applications in life prediction; and the behavior of emerging high-performance alloys, including superalloys, stainless steels, titanium alloys, lightweight alloys, and additively manufactured metals.

The Special Issue also encourages research focused on industrial case studies, component integrity assessment, remaining life evaluation, and the development of design guidelines for high-temperature structures. By bringing together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry, this collection seeks to advance the scientific understanding of creep–fatigue phenomena and support the development of more reliable, durable, and efficient metallic systems for demanding service environments.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
