Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Metals is an international peer-reviewed journal, and this Special Issue, titled “Sintering of Advanced Metallic Materials”, focuses on the latest research on “cutting-edge” consolidation technologies to sinter metallic materials for advanced applications. This includes advanced sintering techniques along with modern characterizations and testing of advanced metals and alloys, focused on industrial applications. By providing a forum for publishing original full-length papers and reviews, this Special Issue seeks to advance the in-depth understanding of the relationship between sintering processing, structure, and the properties of advanced metallic materials, prioritizing papers that have a high impact potential and/or substantially advance the field.

The following aspects of the sintering of metals and alloys are of particular interest:

(i) Cutting-edge experiments using advanced metallic material sintering routes, such as (but not limited to) spark plasma sintering, hot isostatic pressing, hot pressing, microwave sintering, sintering/printing, conventional plasma sintering, high-pressure and high-temperature sintering, cold sintering, and even conventional sintering;

(ii) Elucidation of the mechanisms and phenomena involved in the sintering of metallic materials;

(iii) The use of adequate characterization techniques, specifically as it relates to the understanding of the properties achieved by using an advanced sintering route.

We especially encourage submissions dealing with the sintering of metallic elements and alloys, including metallurgical aspects, characterization, properties and industrial applications.

We will not consider: topics on ceramics, polymers or composites (except metal matrix composites—well accepted), purely computational papers without sufficient experimental validation, or merely technical reports.

Submissions should comprise studies on advanced sintering routes (laboratory, pilot or industrial scale) combined with investigations of properties of interest of metallic materials, elemental metals and metallurgical aspects, contributing to the development of areas of current scientific and industrial interest.

This Special Issue aims to bridge the gap between pure research and the aspects of sintering manufacturing and properties. In this, we aim to provide a platform for collaboration between metallic material scientists, engineers, designers and manufacturers working in the field of metal and alloy sintering.

Topics

This Special Issue, “Sintering of Advanced Metallic Materials”, is devoted to publishing original contributions on, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • All sintering techniques, mainly rapid techniques;
  • Near-net-shaped sintered metals and alloys;
  • Rapid prototyping;
  • Recycling emerging technologies for metallic materials by sintering;
  • Advanced sintered metals and alloys, such as (but not limited to) hard alloys, heavy alloys, light alloys, superalloys, high-entropy alloys, refractory metals, metal matrix composites, shape memory effect alloys, self-lubricated alloys and so on;
  • Applications of all the sintered metallic systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
