Structure and Mechanical Properties of Magnetic Materials

Dear Colleagues,

The aim of this Special Issue is to emphasize the relationships between the internal microstructure of modern magnetic materials and their mechanical properties. One obvious example is provided by composite materials comprising at least two different phases, magnetic and non-magnetic (e.g., micro- and nano-sized magnetic particles embedded into a polymer matrix). Different arrangements of embedded particles may lead to different mechanical properties and their dependences on the applied magnetic field. In magnetic alloys, microstructural effects including grain size, precipitation, and structural order parameter may significantly effect magnetic and mechanical properties.

We would be happy to publish experimental and theoretical studies where the abovementioned relations between the internal material structure and the resulting mechanical properties becomes visible. The mechanical properties of interest could be of any kind (elastic modulus, viscoelasticity, hardness, shape memory effect, etc.). Both soft and hard magnetic materials are of interest, which could be in the bulk form, thin films, or coatings. Technological papers where different material microstructures can be realized by ingenious fabrication methods (e.g., additive manufacturing) also fall within the scope of this Special Issue. Finally, we hope to attract papers demonstrating applications which explore the interplay between the internal material structure and mechanical properties in magnetic fields.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
