Intelligent Power Electronics and Drives for Sustainable Machine Systems
This special issue belongs to the section “Electrical Machines and Drives“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid global transition toward sustainable and energy-efficient technologies has intensified the demand for advanced machine systems powered by intelligent power electronics and electric drives. This Special Issue, “Intelligent Power Electronics and Drives for Sustainable Machine Systems”, will highlight recent innovations that enhance system efficiency, reliability, and environmental sustainability across diverse applications such as renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, smart grids, industrial automation, and microgrid infrastructures. Intelligent power electronic converters, when integrated with advanced control strategies and artificial intelligence, enable superior energy conversion, optimal power flow management, and adaptive operation under dynamic conditions. Similarly, modern electric drive systems with intelligent controllers reduce energy consumption while improving the performance, fault tolerance, and lifetime of machines. Emerging paradigms, including wide-bandgap semiconductors, digital twins, predictive maintenance, IoT-enabled monitoring, and machine learning-based control, are accelerating the development of next-generation sustainable machine systems.
This Special Issue provides a platform for academia and industry to present cutting-edge research and practical solutions supporting global sustainability goals.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Intelligent power electronic converters for sustainable machine systems;
- Advanced control and modulation techniques for electric drives;
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in power electronics and drives;
- Data-driven control, optimization, and monitoring of machine systems;
- Machine learning-based battery management systems (BMSs);
- Power electronics and electric drives for renewable energy-integrated machines;
- Energy storage systems and electrification of machine platforms;
- Wide-bandgap semiconductor devices and their applications in machines;
- Reliability, diagnostics, and condition monitoring of power electronic systems;
- Radiation effects and robustness of power semiconductor devices in harsh environments;
- Predictive maintenance and digital twin technologies for machine systems;
- IoT-enabled monitoring and smart machine applications;
- Energy-efficient, low-loss, and environmentally sustainable drive technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
