Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, clinicians and researchers have increasingly emphasized the importance of incorporating a subjective dimension of diseases to achieve a more holistic understanding of patients' overall health. This shift aligns with the World Health Organization's definition of health as “a state of complete physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” With the patient now being rightfully placed at the center of the therapeutic process, a novel, personalized approach to disease management is emerging across many medical fields. Otorhinolaryngology, in particular, has benefitted significantly from recent advancements in tailored treatments.
Today, patients with head and neck tumors may receive individualized therapies informed by the inflammatory and molecular profile of neoplastic cells. Similarly, those suffering from recalcitrant sinonasal inflammatory conditions, such as chronic rhinosinusitis, may now avoid repeated surgeries or prolonged steroid use through targeted medical strategies. Even patients affected by obstructive sleep apnea can now be offered treatment options customized to their specific polysomnographic patterns and upper airway anatomy, providing viable alternatives to conventional continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy.
The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight and promote recent advances, skills, and techniques that reflect the growing importance of personalized medicine in the field of otorhinolaryngology. I warmly invite you to contribute original articles that showcase novel insights and innovations in this area. In a world that continues to evolve, medicine must evolve with it!
