Advanced Echocardiographic Imaging Using Speckle-Tracking for Assessment of Cardiac Mechanics
This special issue belongs to the section “Imaging“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The landscape of cardiac imaging has undergone exciting and dramatic advancements over the past decade. Within the field of echocardiography, the refinement and application of the speckle-tracking technique have been instrumental in furthering our understanding of fundamental cardiovascular physiology and mechanics, and have proven invaluable in the diagnosis, treatment, and risk stratification of patients across the spectrum of cardiovascular disease. In 2025, there were practice guidelines and scientific statements by the American Society of Echocardiography and American Heart Association supporting the widespread adoption of speckle-tracking echocardiography. This highlights the consistent need for the academic community to build upon this strong foundation, which will undoubtedly impact the cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular outcomes of our patients.
The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight current gaps in evidence, where present, and the impact of speckle-tracking echocardiography on patient management and outcomes. Moreover, articles reporting on the use and effective processing of imaging data (e.g., image report, DICOM data, artificial intelligence) to improve clinical workflow or provide insights into the optimal distribution of imaging services are also requested. The submissions presented in this Special Issue may include review articles, brief editorials, case reports, or original research. This is intended to be multidisciplinary and thus submissions relating to the role of speckle-tracking echocardiography across pediatric, adult, critical care, and perioperative settings are requested.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
