Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Animal nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining animal health, productivity, and physiological balance. Recent advances in molecular biology, biochemistry, and omics technologies have significantly improved our understanding of how nutrients and bioactive dietary compounds regulate metabolic pathways and cellular responses in animals. In particular, oxidative stress and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) have emerged as key mechanisms linking nutrition with cellular function, immune responses, and overall physiological status.

Dietary strategies, including the use of functional feed additives, have attracted considerable attention as tools to modulate oxidative balance and improve animal performance and health. Among these, plant-derived polyphenolic compounds have been widely studied due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective properties. These bioactive molecules can influence multiple molecular pathways, including antioxidant defense systems, metabolic regulation, and cellular signaling processes.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue entitled “Molecular Insights into Animal Nutrition: Oxidative Stress, Polyphenols and Functional Feed Materials”.

This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in the molecular mechanisms underlying animal nutrition, with particular emphasis on oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species, and the role of bioactive dietary compounds such as polyphenols. The topic is closely aligned with the scope of the journal, which focuses on molecular and biochemical mechanisms in biological systems. Understanding how nutrients and functional feed additives affect molecular pathways is essential for improving animal health, productivity, and sustainability in modern animal production systems.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Molecular mechanisms of nutrient metabolism in animals
  • Oxidative stress and antioxidant defense systems
  • Role of reactive oxygen species in animal physiology
  • Polyphenolic compounds as functional feed additives
  • Nutrigenomics and molecular responses to dietary interventions
  • Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms of plant-derived compounds
  • Biomarkers of oxidative stress in animal nutrition studies
  • Nutritional modulation of cellular signaling pathways
  • Interaction between nutrition, metabolism, and immune function
  • Nutritional toxicology and dietary contaminants

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
