Stress, Coping and Wellbeing: An International Perspective
This special issue belongs to the section “Global Health“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The literature on stress and health-related dimensions is vast, and contains a wealth of contributions from several disciplines. Within this broad area of research, publications were initially focused on the investigation of stress as a major predictor of poor mental and physical health across the lifespan. In the last two decades, researchers have paid increasing attention to the role of coping processes in supporting and promoting wellbeing during stressful situations, as well as mechanisms fostering recovery in the aftermath of traumatic events.
To date, however, the number of studies to have examined stress, coping, and wellbeing facets together is still limited, and related contributions primarily include participants from Western and often English-speaking countries. This Special Issue is aimed at providing an overview of the most recent contributions on stress, coping and wellbeing from a broader international perspective. To this end, research works from different cultures and countries will be collected and discussed. Particular attention will be devoted to studies dealing with populations exposed to specific stressful conditions, including chronic pathologies, pandemics and socioeconomic crises or challenges.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to, country-specific or cultural aspects involved in:
- Personal strengths and psychological resources fostering wellbeing in stress conditions;
- Personal growth in the face of stress;
- The role of benefit-finding and positive emotions in coping with stress;
- The meaning-making process as a coping strategy towards wellbeing;
- The measurement invariance of stress, coping and wellbeing constructs;
- Coping as a resource in protecting mental health;
- The relationship among stress, coping and wellbeing.
