Pharmacovigilance—Pay Attention to the Current Situation of the Use of Drugs

This special issue belongs to the section “Health Care Sciences“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Pharmacovigilance is one of the public health activities aimed at identifying, evaluating, preventing, and quantifying the risks associated with the use of drugs. The study of this discipline is essential to demonstrate the ability of a drug to achieve a beneficial and desired effect under ideal conditions of use. The primary purpose of pharmacovigilance is the planning of activities to prevent possible safety problems, continuously providing the best possible information on the safety of medicines, and allowing the adoption of appropriate measures to ensure that drugs on the market present a favorable risk-benefit ratio under the authorized conditions of use. Adverse drug reactions, that is, problems that occur with the doses used when the drug is administered for prophylaxis or treatment of a disease; the baseline incidence of the reaction must be taken; on the other hand, the number of responses that can really be attributed to the drug must be related to the actual consumption of that drug.
