Dear Colleagues,
Intensive aquaculture frequently exposes cultured aquatic animals to diverse environmental stressors, including hypoxia, ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, high stocking density (crowding) and other abiotic challenges, which can trigger oxidative damage, immune suppression, intestinal dysfunction, growth retardation and increased mortality, seriously restricting sustainable aquaculture production. Although considerable progress has been achieved in exploring stress response physiology, the molecular regulatory networks underlying stress adaptation remain incompletely clarified. Furthermore, translating laboratory-identified anti-stress additives into practical, cost-effective functional feed formulations still faces major gaps in the current literature.
This Special Issue aims to gather cutting-edge research concerning stress resistance regulatory mechanisms and nutrition-based anti-stress strategies. We welcome original research, reviews, mini reviews and perspectives covering, but not limited to:
(1) Physiological, biochemical and molecular responses of aquatic animals to environmental stress;
(2) Screening and efficacy evaluation of anti-stress functional feed additives;
(3) Optimization of functional feed formulations against multiple stressor challenges;
(4) Safety assessment and long-term effects of anti-stress diets.
Contributions will deepen our mechanistic understanding and provide actionable nutritional solutions to improve aquatic animal resilience under intensive farming conditions.

Fishes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
