Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Molluscs—comprising bivalves, gastropods, and cephalopods—are among the most diverse and economically important groups of aquatic invertebrates, underpinning a large share of global aquaculture production while also serving as key models for understanding invertebrate physiology, endocrinology, and environmental adaptation. Recent advances in genomics, transcriptomics, and functional biology have transformed our understanding of molluscan neuroendocrine systems, immune defense, shell biomineralization, reproduction, and responses to environmental and anthropogenic stressors. At the same time, expanding mollusc aquaculture faces mounting challenges from climate change, pathogens, pollution, and habitat degradation, calling for integrative approaches that link fundamental biology to applied breeding and management solutions.
This Special Issue, titled "Advances in Molluscs", welcomes original research articles and reviews that advance our understanding of molluscan biology from the molecular to the ecosystem level. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Neuroendocrine and neuropeptide signaling;
- Shell formation and biomineralization;
- Immunity and disease resistance;
- Genomics, transcriptomics, and genetic breeding;
- Reproduction, development, and larval biology;
- Physiological and molecular responses to environmental stress and climate change;
- Sustainable aquaculture practices;
- Ecology, biodiversity, and conservation of molluscs.
We welcome contributions from researchers worldwide working across all molluscan taxa.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Fishes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
