Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Biotechnology is transforming aquaculture by offering practical solutions to long-standing challenges related to productivity, animal health and environmental sustainability. This Special Issue brings together studies that explore how innovative biotechnological tools can be responsibly and innovatively applied to aquaculture. Topics include chromosome manipulation, such as polyploidy, which has been widely used to improve growth performance, sterility, surrogate broodstock propagation and stock management. Advances in cryopreservation are highlighted as essential strategies for preserving genetic resources and supporting selective breeding programs. We welcome research on fish reproduction covering advances in reproductive physiology, hormonal induction, and breeding strategies that improve reproductive efficiency under different production systems. In parallel, this Special Issue aims to address germ cell transplantation as an emerging biotechnology, offering opportunities for surrogate broodstock development and long-term conservation of valuable genetic lines. Studies employing functional genomics are encouraged when molecular insights are linked to traits relevant to aquaculture production. In addition, sex control is presented as an independent strategy to optimize population management and production efficiency. This Special Issue also emphasizes nutrition and health management, including functional feeds, vaccines, and integrated health approaches that enhance immunity, animal welfare, and disease prevention. Together, these topics support the development of sustainable aquaculture by balancing innovation, productivity, and environmental responsibility.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Fishes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
