Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In a time of rapid technological change and growing environmental concern, embedding sustainability into digital business models has become a strategic imperative. Emerging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and digital platforms are reshaping how financial institutions drive efficiency, engage customers, and pursue long-term sustainability. These tools enable new forms of transparency, decentralization, and connectivity, empowering firms to redesign their operations and value-creation strategies with sustainability at their core.
As digital transformation accelerates, aligning digital infrastructure with sustainable development goals is vital. Blockchain, for instance, enhances supply chain transparency, enabling traceability and accountability. Artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms optimize financial decision-making, fostering sustainable investment strategies and boosting stakeholder engagement in corporate responsibility. Meanwhile, data-driven digital processes support innovation and resilience in the face of economic and environmental challenges.
This shift toward innovative FinTech models invites further exploration into how financial institutions adopt such technologies while addressing their ecological, social, and economic responsibilities. It also raises ethical issues, energy consumption issues, and governance concerns—key considerations for managing digital tools responsibly in the transition to a greener future. Although digital transformation and information systems are well-researched areas, their intersection with sustainability strategies remains underexplored.
This Special Issue of FinTech aims to fill that gap by gathering interdisciplinary research on the convergence of sustainable development, digital business transformation, and technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence. We welcome contributions that offer critical insights, empirical evidence, and case studies on the drivers, challenges, and innovations in FinTech.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Digital business models using blockchain and decentralized tech;
- Social media’s role in stakeholder engagement;
- Digital transformation for low-carbon and eco-efficient operations;
- Governance and ethical dimensions of digital sustainability;
- Environmental impacts of blockchain and AI-based systems;
- Design, implementation, performance of green information systems;
- Digital ecosystems and their influence on the circular economy;
- Case studies on digital platforms advancing green entrepreneurship.
We encourage scholars, practitioners, and policy-makers to submit papers that deepen our understanding of how digital transformation can support sustainability in e-business. Together, we can shape a more responsible and sustainable digital future.
We look forward to your contributions.
