Image Encryption and Privacy Protection Based on Chaotic Systems—Third Edition

Dear Colleagues, 

The first two editions of the Special Issue "Image Encryption and Privacy Protection Based on Chaotic Systems" included high-quality theoretical and experimental papers written by experts in this area and attracted a lot of interest (including many downloads). Therefore, we have decided to publish a third edition.

Chaos is a universal physical phenomenon in nature and the engineering world, as well as a core research topic in nonlinear science. Applications of chaotic systems are everywhere, especially in secure communication, multimedia information encryption, and privacy protection for sensitive information. Chaotic systems have unique advantages in many applications. They can be used for chaotic system modeling and in dynamic complexity analysis to investigate the chaotic behavior of nonlinear systems. Additionally, using Shannon information theory, the complexity of such systems can be studied to allow us to explain and predict their dynamic characteristics. As such, the use of new complex chaotic systems to design high-performance image encryption algorithms and privacy protection schemes have attracted extensive attention.

Research on chaotic system modeling, complexity analysis, and the security applications of chaotic systems is growing steadily; nevertheless, this field requires further exploration and innovation. New statistical techniques based on Shannon information theory, ways to reduce the complexity of known techniques, and a better understanding of the meaning of entropy in complex systems are needed. It will be necessary to combine new computer technology and artificial intelligence methods to explore new methods for implementing chaotic systems in security applications. We welcome the submission of papers focused on addressing these requirements to this Special Issue.

This Special Issue aims to provide a forum for introducing new and improved chaotic system modeling and complexity analysis technologies. Of particular interest are new image encryption algorithms and privacy protection schemes based on chaotic system models and new computer technology and artificial intelligence methods.
