Encyclopedia | Aims Update

To further enhance the quality of Encyclopedia and the papers published in it, under the guidance of our Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Raffaele Barretta, the journal has updated and revised its aims. The original aims and the updated version are listed below.

Aims (new version):

Aims (original version):

Encyclopedia (ISSN: 2673-8392) is a peer-reviewed open access journal that publishes high-quality entries, field guides, reviews, systematic reviews, research articles and editorials in all scientific areas. Our aim is to form a comprehensive record of scientific development and provide reference information not only for researchers, but for the general public interested in accurate and advanced knowledge on specific topics.

  • Entries should be reliable, objective, and based on established knowledge rather than original research work or unproven hypotheses. Qualified entries from the Encyclopedia platform (www.encyclopedia.pub) can be recorded in our journal after peer-review.
  • Field guides contain images/illustrations that help readers identify plants, fungi, animals, minerals, fossils, rocks, etc. Field guides usually focus on a specific area or region (e.g., a national park, an island, city park, or country). They usually contain images (photos and/or illustrations) that cover the diversity of the organisms/objects and clearly present characteristic features needed for the visual identification.
  • Reviews should be critical and constructive and provide recommendations for future research.
  • Research articles should fit in with the scope of the Section “Encyclopedia Studies” (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/encyclopedia/sections/encyclopedia_studies). For example, studies on encyclopedia books, encyclopedia platforms or encyclopedia knowledge, etc., are encouraged.
