Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue will explore the intersection between cognitive neuroscience, culturally adapted mental health interventions, and their role in addressing the psychological and emotional well-being of populations facing unique challenges. Recent developments in culturally adapted cognitive-behavioral therapy (CA-CBT) have demonstrated promising efficacy in improving mental health outcomes, particularly in the treatment of depressive symptoms and enhancing treatment engagement across various ethnic minority groups, including Hispanic, Haitian, South Asian, and Chinese American communities. These cultural adaptations underscore the importance of tailoring therapeutic approaches to resonate with the cultural backgrounds of the individuals receiving care.

Interdisciplinary research highlights the potential of these interventions to address mental health challenges, especially in low-resource settings, where individuals may be disproportionately affected by socio-economic hardship and cultural dislocation. Such approaches, grounded in cognitive neuroscience and adapted to specific cultural contexts, provide valuable insights into the emotional and cognitive processes that drive mental health outcomes.

We are eager to consider submissions that further the understanding of the effectiveness and mechanisms behind culturally adapted interventions, as well as their potential to reduce mental health disparities and promote well-being across diverse populations. This Special Issue aims to unite research in cognitive neuroscience and psychology to showcase how culturally informed therapeutic strategies can contribute to improved mental health outcomes globally.

We invite submissions of novel research, comprehensive reviews, case studies, and practical reports that align with the thematic goals of this Special Issue. Contributions should be based on empirical evidence and provide detailed accounts of how culturally adapted interventions, informed by cognitive neuroscience, are applied within therapeutic practices. Studies that explore the impact of these interventions on mental health outcomes, such as emotional regulation, cognitive functioning, and overall well-being, are particularly welcome.

We look forward to receiving your contributions and to advancing the understanding of culturally adapted mental health interventions through this Special Issue.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
