Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The science of open data is focused on the publication of observations and results of scientific activities available for analysis, use, and reuse. Currently, there are international initiatives designed to facilitate open and innovative science that focuses on promoting open, secure, persistent, and robust scientific data. The Workshop on Data Science (WDS) was aimed at promoting the dissemination of knowledge and the exchange of experiences on open data science among Brazilian researchers and professionals with advanced international initiatives.

In this 5th edition of WDS (http://wds.poli.usp.br/wds5/), the mission of this event was to show the importance of large-scale open data management for scientific datasets related to atmospheric phenomena and to promote collaboration and share experiences between the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Data Science Group with the Brazilian Data Science Group, with the aim to design and develop cyber-infrastructure facilities to manage various observational and modeling data with a particular focus on atmospheric phenomena to the Brazilian scientific/academic community.

This Special Edition describes the main subjects of the 5th WDS related to the concepts, open standards, methods, and tools used by ARM for atmospheric data management and analysis and challenges in the context of the Brazilian atmospheric research community. The subjects discussed in this Special Edition are: end-to-end data flow, data quality, metadata, data preservation, publication, and analysis.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Data is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs).
