Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements, emerging trends and unresolved challenges in the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and intermittent hypoxia (IH). For this Special Issue, we invite our colleagues to submit scientific research addressing various topics related to obstructive sleep apnea and intermittent hypoxia, with a focus on their cellular and molecular underpinnings, including, but not limited to, home sleep apnea testing, risk factors for OSA, the cellular and molecular pathophysiology of OSA, intermittent hypoxia in OSA at the cellular and molecular levels, the hypoxia burden, overnight polysomnography, continuous positive airway pressure, OSA and cognitive impairment, aging and OSA, obesity and OSA, chronic kidney diseases and OSA, drug treatment of OSA, mandibular advancement for OSA, sleep macro- and microarchitecture in OSA, sleep spindles and cognitive function, OSA and wearable technology, sleep and machine learning, OSA and sleep fragmentation, OSA and shift workers, OSA and long-route truck drivers, cellular and molecular links between OSA and the brain, cellular and molecular mechanisms of OSA-associated cardiovascular consequences, and OSA, IH and their cellular and molecular pathophysiology.
We encourage our colleagues to submit original research articles, review papers and perspectives that explore novel cellular and molecular approaches, innovative technologies and evidence-based practices in sleep medicine relevant to OSA.
The objective of this Special Issue is to foster collaboration among researchers, clinicians and experts in the field, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences on OSA’s cellular and molecular mechanisms. By highlighting current challenges and future perspectives in this domain, we will enhance patient outcomes, optimize individualized treatment of choice and shape the future of sleep medicine and obstructive sleep apnea research.
We welcome contributions from all researchers working in the fields of sleep medicine and OSA, such as basic scientists, human integrative physiologists, sleep clinicians, behavioral sleep medicine experts, and allied healthcare professionals working in the field of sleep medicine. We encourage authors to follow the guidelines for manuscript preparation.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
