Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The Special Issue titled “New Insights into Platelet Physiology and Dysfunction” aims to highlight recent advances in our understanding of platelet biology and its implications for human health and disease. Traditionally recognized for their central role in hemostasis and thrombosis, platelets are now increasingly appreciated as dynamic and multifunctional cells that actively participate in many pathophysiological conditions including inflammation, immunity, and vascular homeostasis.
More recently, new evidence has uncovered signaling pathways as well as intercellular signaling channels through which platelets modulate physiology and pathogenesis. In recent years, platelet activation, aggregation, and lifespan, as well as their interplay with endothelial cells, leukocytes and circulating factors, have been addressed through investigations on molecular and cellular levels. Abnormalities in platelet function are significantly linked to a wide variety of conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, thromboinflammatory disorders, and bleeding complications. Meanwhile, advancements in omics technologies, sophisticated imaging techniques, and systems biology are providing more detailed perspectives on platelet heterogeneity and their regulatory mechanisms.
This Special Issue will present a collection of research articles and reviews examining these recent advancements, with the goal of connecting fundamental scientific research with its practical applications in clinical settings. The objective is to enhance the comprehension of platelet physiology and dysfunction, thereby informing the development of innovative diagnostic tools and targeted therapeutic strategies to improve clinical outcomes across various disease contexts.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
