Cytoreductive Surgery, Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy, and Beyond in Peritoneal Disease: Advances in Clinical Care and Therapeutics
This special issue belongs to the section “Cancer Therapy“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Peritoneal disease refers to the involvement of malignant cells on the peritoneum, either from primary peritoneal tumors (e.g., mesothelioma) or secondary peritoneal tumors (peritoneal metastasis from other organs, e.g., ovarian or colorectal). Peritoneal disease generally portends a poor prognosis; however, outcomes are dependent on several factors, including the primary tumor site of origin and the extent of the disease. Consequently, standard treatment is also tumor-specific, although cytoreductive surgery with or without intraperitoneal chemotherapy has shown benefits for select patients. However, several questions remain about the optimal diagnosis, staging, and treatment for peritoneal disease. These challenges span the disease course: presentation, pre-operative optimization, treatment sequencing, and novel therapeutic advances, systemic approaches, palliation of ascites, and intestinal obstruction. There are ongoing debates regarding several treatment factors, with limited therapeutic clinical trial data to serve as a guide. Overall, despite advances in the treatments of peritoneal disease patients, there remains a significant clinical need for improvements in clinical care and novel therapies to improve outcomes and patient-centered care, ranging from PIPAC to photodynamic therapy.
For this Special Issue of Cancers, we invite original research and review articles that highlight the most recent advances in clinical care and novel therapeutics for peritoneal disease. We anticipate that this Special Issue will exemplify the critical research being conducted in order to help drive future breakthroughs.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
