Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Brazil is the largest country in South America, and its urbanization and industrial expansion, together with the advance of agricultural frontiers, have reshaped its atmospheric composition over the past decades. Large metropolitan regions, such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, deal with pollution from vehicles and industry, while seasonal biomass burning in the Amazon and Cerrado carries pollutants over long distances, turning air quality into a complex regional problem. In some urban centers, studies have noted declining trends in PM10 and SO2, but PM2.5 and O3 concentrations still routinely exceed WHO and national guidelines, leading to preventable morbidity and mortality. Climate-driven droughts, heatwaves, and record-breaking wildfire seasons have intensified pollutant episodes, underscoring the intersection between air quality, climate resilience, and social vulnerability. Recent federal legislation (Brazilian Federal Law No. 14,850/2024) requires each state to prepare emission inventories and air quality management plans and offers fiscal and financial incentives to support emission control actions. This Special Issue therefore invites interdisciplinary contributions that quantify sources, evaluate trends, explore health and ecosystem impacts, assess policy effectiveness, and present innovative monitoring or mitigation strategies. Together, these combined insights will guide practical, evidence-based actions for cleaner air and healthier lives across Brazil.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Atmosphere is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
