Infectious Diseases in Poultry

This special issue belongs to the section “Poultry“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is well-known that poultry is one of the most widespread food industries on a global scale. In recent years, significant improvements in poultry welfare have been introduced in poultry rearing systems, particularly in the egg production sector. These improvements have intensified some management problems, but have also created more difficulties in infection control, allowing traditional and emerging diseases to occur with economic losses to the poultry industry. Several different viral and bacterial diseases may affect poultry. Moreover, some infections, such as those due to Campylobacter spp., usually occur in poultry without symptoms, representing a problem for human health. The European Union recommends the prudent use of antibiotics in poultry production systems considering the possible implications for the development of antimicrobial resistance. Therefore, the implementation of biosecurity measures and strategies for infectious diseases control has been encouraged, exploring alternatives to the use of antibiotics such as acidifying components, natural substances, immunostimulants, and vaccines. Researchers unceasingly work on gaining knowledge, new results, and innovation in poultry diseases control. The aim of this Special Issue is to disseminate new data on epidemiology, pathogenic mechanisms, diagnostic tools, and vaccine development for infectious diseases prevention and control.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
