Dear Colleagues,
It is particularly interesting to note that, unlike other diagnostic imaging techniques, endoscopic procedures in veterinary medicine struggle to find a unified framework that adequately highlights their value.
This is certainly not due to a lack of interest among researchers. In 2025 alone, the keyword combination "dog or cat and endoscopy" yielded 91 publications on PubMed. Rather, the challenge likely arises from the inherently multidisciplinary nature of this field, which spans various veterinary specialties—including medicine, surgery, and reproduction—and involves multiple organ systems such as the gastrointestinal, respiratory, reproductive, and musculoskeletal systems.
The aim of this issue is to present original research and reviews, shedding light on all aspects of endoscopic procedures in small animal medicine, for both diagnostic and research purposes.
Topics will include the use of flexible and rigid instruments, as well as pill endoscopy, which may be of particular interest to colleagues involved in the daily management of canine and feline diseases.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
