Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Agricultural and food systems have experienced remarkable advances in terms of productivity, food security and sustainability in recent decades. The consideration of agriculture and food as integrated systems with mutually interrelated components has been a key contribution to these advances. Indeed, agricultural and food processes cannot be understood today without consideration of the interactions between all subsystems in the complexity of the food–water–energy–climate nexus. These interrelations play an important role in all stages of the agricultural and food value chain, from plant breeding to crop production up to the final stages of food consumption, i.e., over the complete process from seed to fork. In this regard, long-term environmental and socioeconomic sustainability of the agricultural and food systems has become not only an added value, but a mandatory requirement in today’s context of scarce natural resources and climate change.

Within this context, the International Conference of Young Researchers in Agricultural and Food Sciences offers an excellent opportunity to first-level young researchers for the discussion, interchange and promotion of their scientific advances. Indeed, with their work on the frontline of scientific advances, young researchers are nowadays the backbone of scientific discovery and the breeding ground for the development of the scientific and technological developments of the future.

This Special Issue consolidates the most remarkable original works awarded at the 2022 International Conference of Young Researchers in Agricultural and Food Sciences and therefore provides excellent insights into the most recent advances in all knowledge areas covered by the conference. This includes works in the areas of plant breeding, molecular biology, agroindustrial bioprocesses, chemical engineering, biomass valorization, environmental sciences, plant health, water engineering, plant nutrition, agricultural engineering, food safety, food science and technology, nutrition, terrestrial and aquatic animal production, agrifood marketing, agricultural economics, and agricultural law and policy.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
