Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues, 

Pathogens destroy a significant fraction of annual crop production, both before and after harvest. This problem continues to worsen as a result of climate change and globalization. Populations’ food security, sustainability, and access to crucial materials are diminished by crop losses and disease pressure from fungi, bacteria, oomycetes, nematodes, and viruses, highlighting an urgent need for durable disease resistance strategies and crop protection. Such strategies must account for or even be derived from plant signaling pathways related to pathogen interactions. 

This Special Issue, titled “Crop Disease Resistance-Related Signaling Pathways”, will showcase new insights into disease-related signaling in crop plants and crop plant relatives. We welcome the submission of reviews, regular research papers, communications and short notes focusing or related to this aforementioned topic. Scientists conducting research at the molecular, cell, organism and environment/ecological (agroecological) levels are invited to submit papers to this Special Issue. Submissions directly or indirectly examining crop disease-related signaling and mechanisms are welcome. Studies that integrate approaches for examining key regulators and cross-talk mechanisms are especially encouraged for submission. Computational and experimental approaches are appropriate, as are translations of basic discoveries into breeding strategies, food or seed production techniques, disease mitigation technologies, crop resilience enhancements, etc. The incorporation of sustainability concerns would be desirable. In addition to diseases caused by endemic pathogens, emerging plant diseases’ interactions with signaling pathways in crops are appropriate subjects for this Special Issue. Studies addressing any of the above aspects of disease-related crop plant signaling will be solicited as contributions.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
