Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the rapid advancement of technologies such as high-speed processing hardware and software paradigms, advanced communication protocols, cloud-based storage, distributed processing, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, machine-learning, and data mining, our world is becoming ever-more complicated and complex. The preponderance of available data and ubiquitous information are hallmarks of modern society, but are the data/information trustworthy, correct, and actionable? Is the infrastructure that contains the data/information secure and resilient to cyber-attacks? Advanced sensors and imaging systems need to be capable of addressing these questions and need to keep pace with the ever-changing technical landscape. They need to evolve to become “smart” and adaptive devices that are capable of seamlessly interfacing/communicating with evolving technologies, are capable of rapid, local, high-speed processing and decision making, and can protect themselves against various physical and cyber threats and attacks.

This special edition focuses on high-quality original work on advanced sensors, imaging, and detection concepts. Papers of interest include hardware and software, methods, tools, and techniques for stand-alone and distributed sensors and imaging systems, lab-on-a-chip (LOC) sensing and detection components, and adaptive signal and image processing concepts that provide new and revolutionary detection and imaging capabilites. Papers are welcome on novel incoherent and coherent imaging methods, high-speed parallel processing devices and methodologies, high-speed atmospheric turbulence compensation methods for optical imagery, localized and distributed decision and risk frameworks and architectures, methods for data/sensor resiliency, neural network hardware and software for sensor processing and imaging applications, smart sensor algorithms for adaptive learning, sensor-based and distributed artificial intelligence and evolutionary computing, and sensor protection and healing methods.

We respectfully invite you to submit a high-quality original research paper or review to this Special Issue, “Advanced Sensors, Imaging, and Detection Concepts.”

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. J is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
