Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This special issue explores how digital technologies—such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, big data analytics, cloud computing, cybersecurity in digital finance, and digital currencies—reshape financial systems, institutions, and practices. It emphasizes transformative applications in areas like fintech innovation, algorithmic trading, decentralized finance (DeFi), regulatory compliance, and financial inclusion. The issue covers theoretical advancements, empirical studies, and case analyses spanning developed and emerging markets. The purpose of this issue is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges that digital technology brings to financial development. It aims to bridge the gap between technological innovation and financial practices, offering insights for both academia and industry.

By bridging academia and industry perspectives, the issue aims to advance understanding of how digitalization drives efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability in finance while addressing risks like systemic vulnerabilities, data privacy concerns, and regulatory fragmentation.

While prior research often isolates individual technologies (e.g., blockchain or AI) or examines sector-specific impacts (e.g., banking or insurance), this issue adopts a holistic lens to uncover interdependencies between tools, models, markets, and policies. It extends literature by:

  • Integrating cross-disciplinary insights from finance, computer science, and governance studies;
  • Providing empirical evidence on scalability challenges and unintended consequences of rapid digital adoption.
  • By synthesizing fragmented discourse, this collection offers policymakers, practitioners, and scholars actionable frameworks to navigate the evolving digital-financial nexus.
  • Addressing understudied areas like ethical AI and address emerging trends and potential future developments.
