Dr. Cosimo Distante Appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of “Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition” in Journal of Imaging
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Cosimo Distante has been appointed as Section Editor-in-Chief of “Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition” in Journal of Imaging (ISSN 2313-433X, https://www.mdpi.com/journal/jimaging).
Cosimo Distante received a degree in Computer Science in 1997 at the University of Bari and a Ph.D. in Engineering in 2001 at the University of Salento, Italy. In 1998, he was a visiting researcher at the Computer Science Department of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst MA (USA), where he worked in the context of perceptual robotics and artificial neural networks systems with Prof. R. Grupen and A. Barto. He served as a teaching assistant for the Artificial Intelligence Class of the University of Massachusetts with Prof. V. Lesser. In 2001, he joined the Italian National Research Council (CNR), leading the signal and image processing laboratory. Since 2003, Dr. Distante has been contract professor on computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition in computer engineering at the University of Salento, Italy.
In 2011, Dr. Distante was awarded with the national innovation prize working capital PNI-Cube with the project Taggalo. In 2012, he was awarded from the Senate President and Minister of Education University and Research of the Republic of Italy with the Prize of the Prizes for Innovation. He has served and serves as general chair of several established conferences: ICIAP 2021, the IEEE AVSS 2017 and 2021, and ACIVS 2016, and several international workshops. Currently, he is with the Institute of Applied Sciences and Intelligent systems ISASI “E.R. Caianiello” (former Institute of Cybernetics) of the CNR. His main research interests are in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition applied to: audience measurements, security and surveillance, robotics, medical imaging, and manufacturing.
