Journal of Clinical Medicine | Summary of the 2026 Academic Editorial Board Meeting of the “Ophthalmology” Section
We are pleased to invite you to review the summary of the Academic Editorial Board Meeting for the “Ophthalmology” Section of Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM, ISSN 2077-0383), held on 22 September 2026. The meeting was hosted by Dr. Brent Siesky, Editor-in-Chief of the Section, and brought together six Editorial Board Members to discuss strategies for the Section’s development. We also welcome suggestions from all members. Please contact the JCM Editorial Office or the Deputy Managing Editors to share your suggestions.
We presented basic information about JCM and the “Ophthalmology” Section to the Editorial Board Members. The topics covered included:
- An overview of MDPI branch offices, community recognition, the research integrity team, and AI tools;
- JCM’s 2025 performance data, the Early Career Editorial Board Program, and journal awards;
- Marketing activities, including conference sponsorships, free online webinars, conferences (IOCCM 2026, ICCM 2027), social media promotion, collaborations with societies, and academic publishing workshops;
- Publication statistics for the “Ophthalmology” Section, including its highly cited publications and most popular Special Issues.
The main topics covered during this meeting were as follows:
- Members mentioned that AI and machine learning could represent an important area for future development within the section;
- Members discussed MDPI Editorial Procedure details, and JCM will continue to maintain rigorous peer-review standards;
- Members expressed support for involving early career researchers in the journal's editorial activities via the Early Career Editorial Board Program. This initiative could help build their connections with the JCM before they take on other editorial roles;
- Members suggested raising JCM’s visibility at major ophthalmology conferences, including ARVO, ASRS, and other large international meetings.
