Cover Story: This work explores the potential of grid-forming (GFM) control for offshore wind power plants connected via long HVAC cables. It investigates how GFM compares to traditional grid-following (GFL) strategies in terms of small-signal stability under various system arrangements and grid strengths. The results reveal that GFM not only extends the feasible length of HVAC export cables, but also significantly enhances system robustness, particularly under weak grid conditions. This research provides insights for designing more resilient offshore wind infrastructures. View this paper
