Cover Story: At the Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics (TFD), a new test facility has been built, including a 6 MW compressor station designed and built by AERZEN. This system provides air to several wind tunnels, axial turbines, and compressors used to investigate steady and unsteady effects in turbomachines. In order to provide high homogeneity of the inflow to the test rigs, customized settling chambers have been developed using analytical and numerical design methods. Furthermore, AERZEN and the TFD designed a unique device for robust and fast in-line flow field measurements including rake probes, as well as traversing multi-hole probes. During acceptance tests, this device proved outstanding homogeneity of the flow field at the outlet section of the settling chamber. View this paper
