Cover Story: Point clouds have become a robust 3D surface representation in recent years, but they do not always offer the highest quality and uniformity. For applications in computer-aided engineering, this is a key requirement. This paper builds on existing brute force triangulation techniques and introduces a new approach called Series of Local Triangulations to reconstruct an intermediate mesh that performs reliably even in the most challenging conditions. It integrates feature distance fields to seamlessly resample a uniform point cloud while preserving important features. The method is easy to implement and fits smoothly into existing CAE workflows. A plug-and-play approach allows researchers to customize parts of the algorithm to suit their specific applications. View this paper
