Cover Story: Fast-switching semiconductors induce ripple currents on the high-voltage DC bus in the electric vehicle. A new approach is described to investigate the influence of these overlaid ripples on the battery's lifetime. Ripple currents occurring during driving were evaluated, and lithium-ion cells were cycled, superimposing the corresponding ripple currents. The cell parameters were characterized regularly. The dataset resulting from the aging study is suitable for developing and validating aging models and methods for battery diagnosis. View this paper
