Cover Story: Groups provide the language of symmetry in mathematics and in physics. Essential symmetries in quantum physics come after either the indetermination principle or the invariance of the flat space time in special relativity. In relation to the former, the relevant group is the Heisenberg–Weyl group, while the Euclidean group in n+1 dimensions plays a protagonic role in special relativity. Both groups may be immersed into a more general group, which admits a natural representation on topological linear spaces spanned by generalized Hermite functions. All of this work is based on the masterlines designed by Hermann Weyl some decades ago. View this paper
