Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The subject is interesting. But it needs improvement. I made some suggestions. With these suggestions, the quality of the article will increase even more.

1)The abstract section should be supported with numerical information.

2)Figure 1 should be explained comprehensively

3)More information should be given for Figures 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9.

4)The study has no discussion section

5)The Conclusion section should be expanded. A main frame of the study should be drawn.

6)Where is the neural network in this study? It's superficial.

7)What are the innovative aspects of this study? It should be added to the introduction.

8)No numerical information is presented in the Simulation section. This is an important shortcoming.

Dear authors

You are proposing an MFA based adaptive ETC strategy, and because of complexity, every value must be defined by its appearance. Values can’t be defined by undefined values. One value (Definition 2) can’t be defined by the inequality without some additional condition.

Moreover, function’s arguments are running away and their derivatives are not clear for understanding. Since you have not derived the iterative formulas in (19), and I didn’t check it, you must check some illogically details that appear.

Because all above, it was hard to review the manuscript. Furthermore, there is no Lemma 3 and it is impossible to check the proof of Theorem 1.

Once more, we are writing articles for readers and every statement must be provable or available from literature that is reachable. So you must improve your manuscript under that be understandable.

Arguments’ absence in Simulations stop me in understanding your work completely. Nevertheless you did good work and now you have to make it understandable for readers who are not working it with you.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear Authors,

The manuscript entitled "Minimal-Approximation-Based Adaptive Event-Triggered Control of Switched Nonlinear Systems with Unknown Control Direction" has been reviewed and the following are my comments.

For simplicity and ease of analysis, I have classified these observations into two categories: "Strong Points" and "Weak Points" (here I would like to state, at the outset, that "weak points" could be considered, in the case of this manuscript, "less strong points"). I would like all those who read these observations to consider these opinions, as the property of a "reader", perhaps not always the most knowledgeable in the field, but certainly an independent and very well-intentioned and determined observer.

Weaknesses:

 1)- I would suggest the authors check the sentence: "To further demonstrate the advantage of this paper". I don't think the phrase "the advantage of this paper" is correct. Maybe try "the advantage of the strategy presented in this paper";

2)- Section 5. Conclusions are very poor if we refer to the quality of the manuscript, the results obtained, and the way they are presented in the paper. I would suggest the authors number the conclusions, as in a summary, and present all the improvements made to the traditional backstepping algorithms by the authors, through the minimal function approximation (MFA) technique.

Dear Authors,

it remains for you to improve values in the Assumption 1 and it will be OK.
