February 2017 - 18 articles

Cover Story: The endeavor to reduce CO2 emissions associated with the burning of fossil fuels in combination with an increase in worldwide energy demands has led to the increased development of renewable energies. The installation of offshore wind power structures is one of the most promising approaches to meeting worldwide energy demands. This review summarizes the coatings systems and pre-treatment methods studied and applied on offshore wind power structures from 2011 to 2016. The advantages of the most prominent systems are discussed as well as future perspectives. Additionally, the testing methods available for degradation assessment (corrosion and fatigue) are compared.
