Cover Story: This project began by developing antimicrobial Cu-based coatings by plasma spray on several substrates following the COVID-19 pandemic. The coatings showed good efficacy against bacteria with the contribution of both physical (attachment on rough surfaces) and chemical (reactions) processes. However, the antibacterial mechanisms are debated in the literature, which pushed the authors to investigate the bacteria alteration mode in regard to it contact with copper. This is crucial for developing daily-use surfaces (public transportation, medical tools) capable of eliminating microorganisms in a short time. Nevertheless, at the outlet of the wastewater treatment station, the water still contains bacteria and micropollutants (mainly antibiotics). For this, photosensitive surface properties are important in terms of chemical compound elimination. View this paper
