Cover Story: Financial distress is a pressing challenge for businesses, particularly in the dynamic economic landscape of Central Europe. Companies progress through distinct life cycle stages, each carrying unique financial risks. This study critically evaluates bankruptcy prediction models developed for the region, revealing their varying reliability across these stages. The findings uncover a U-shaped distress pattern, with start-ups and declining firms facing the greatest risks. By identifying the most effective predictive tools, this research enhances early warning systems, offering invaluable insights for financial analysts, policymakers, and business leaders striving to safeguard corporate resilience.
