Cover Story: Reducing nitrogen content in swine manure could improve its management, optimizing land application while minimizing ammonia emissions and allowing its recovery as an ammonium salt fertilizer. In this study, ammonia was successfully removed and recovered from swine manure using a gas-permeable membrane system operated in semi-continuous mode. The recovery rate was uniform regardless of the total ammonia loading rate applied and the ammonia concentration in the reactor. View this paper.
