Cover Story: This research presents the detection of DNOC in baits and gastric contents of poisoned animals collected in the Abruzzo region between 2014 and 2022. A total of 663 samples from baits and carcasses of domestic and wild animals were analyzed using GC-MS to identify DNOC. The pesticide was detected in 58 of the 663 samples, with 49 cases involving poison baits and 9 related to the gastric contents of dogs and red foxes. This research is the first to confirm that the banned pesticide DNOC is still responsible for poisoning domestic and wild animals in the Abruzzo region. The findings underscore the importance of including DNOC in toxicological investigations and differential diagnoses of animal poisoning. View this paper
