Cover Story: This paper examines the significance of healthy eating habits and balanced diets for adolescent athletes, focusing on the Mediterranean diet (MD) and its benefits. Young athletes often struggle to adhere to proper nutrition, and their adherence is influenced by factors like sport type and sociodemographics. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is applied to understand and predict dietary behavior, emphasizing that intention, driven by attitudes, social norms, and perceived control, shapes food choices. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate adherence to MD among athletes in both lean and non-lean sports. It also seeks to assess the factors that influence athletes’ intentions to adhere to the MD. By better understanding these factors, researchers can develop more effective interventions to promote healthy dietary behaviors in young athletes. View this paper
