Cover Story: Wavelet scattering is a time-frequency transform that can better represent signal characteristics due to the use of a recursive chain. It is a deep convolutional operator where filters are given instead of being learnt. In this paper, it is used as an input of an SVM classifier for signal classification purposes. The Minimum Description Length is used to define an automatic pre-processing procedure that estimates the best sampling step to apply to the wavelet scattering feature matrix before running the classifier. This allows us to optimize the learning process in terms of computing time, while increasing signal classification accuracy. View this paper
