Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article presents the role of PVA in certain properties of cementitious materials. Some minor corrections are in the pdf attached but the reviewer would like to ask the authors to add the differentiation in setting time measured by Vikat in the different compositions and also the workability achieved with the different percentages of PVA. Please, also add few lines on the protocol followed to add the PVA in the mixtures.

Please see the attachment. Some of the questions are explained as follows.

Why I choose these curing conditions.

"Dry curing is conducive to the formation of polymer film, and the repair material described in this paper is used to repair damaged concrete pavement."

The influence of PVA on workability.

"The addition of PVA can reduce the fluidity of mortar, increase the cohesion of mortar and also prolong the setting time of mortar."

Line 101 – you should put the kind of instruments and the analytical conditions for XRD and XRF analyses

Line 158 - you should put the kind of instrument for the Thermo-gravimetric analysis

Line 163 - you should put the kind of instrument for the Mercury intrusion porosimetry

Line 167 - you should put the kind of instrument for the SEM observations

Line 244 - you should put the kind of instrument concerning infrared analysis

Reviewer 3 Report

The submitted paper is interesting and generally well written. But I don’t think it is in the scope of the Crystals journal. In my opinion, the paper should be submitted for Materials journal of the same publisher. In anyway, the paper needs several improvements before its acceptation for publication. See and address my comment below.

Line 46 Capital in the beginning of the first sentence

Lines 56-60 Please, rephrase. The meaning is completely lost.

Line 61 “At the same time Cement rapid repairing materials heat concentrated in early age” do you mean hydration heat? Please, rephrase and make this sentence clear.

Line 97, 98 word company must be written in one style.

Line 110 There is missing full stop in the end of the first sentence.

2.2.1 What was the load speed in flexural and compressive strength tests? It must be stated.

2.2.3 I am not sure whether the impact resistance test is proper or necessary for the examined materials. It must be clearly explained in the manuscript, why the impact resistance test was conducted.

In Figs. 1-3, in horizontal axis there must be introduced PVA (wt. %). Please, revise.

Similarly in Table 3, AFt (wt. %).

Do authors have information on the measurement uncertainties of the applied test methods?  Especially uncertainties of the strength tests and impact resistance test might be introduced.

Information on the used sand is completely missing. Please complete, together with its particle size analysis.

It is not clear, how the w/c ratio was chosen. It must be clearly stated.

What was the specimen mass in TG, XRD and MIP tests? Was the measurement repeated?
